ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) -The mission of the US EPA has been to protect the environment and and the health of the people in the environment since 1970.
-The US EPA holds the responsibility of enforcing and carrying out the environmental laws. The federal enforcement of environmental laws and regulations was separated into these three groups in the executive branch: the Department of Agriculture, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Department of Interior. Although the EPA enforces most of the environmental regulations, it does not efforce some of the laws dealing with national parks, national forests, wilderness areas, wildlife refuges, and some public lands other than the previous ones.
-The EPA helps to enforce the environmental laws by defining the bondaries and areas the law covers.
-There headquarters are in Washington, D.C., and the organizations contains 17,000 people from across the United States.
-The jobs of the EPA are:
Develop and enforce regulations: The EPA's job is to research the acts passed by Congress to see if national standards are or are not met. When they are not met, the EPA helps the areas to meet the standards.
Offer financial assistance: State organizations and other non-profit and educational organizations are given 40-50 percent of the EPA's budget to support the research of the programs.
Perform environmental research
Sponsor voluntary partnerships and programs
